There is a sense of familiarity and comfort as F1 returns to Spain. It has that “back to racing” feeling as we move away from circuits with other distractions and restrictions. Spain just has the right vibes (or just a good reference point) as the teams bring in new upgrades on a longer and wider “tweaked” track. I am certainly excited to see how the non-Red Bull teams attempt to catch up. Statistically, pole position is still where most winners come from: a whopping 71.88%. And only 18.75% started on second.
The GP score trend also seems to suggest drivers may be more comfortable here. Drivers just seem to do better here with their long modern history (32 GP). With that said Stroll might want to pick it up a bit more. His gap with Alonso is just getting too evident and ugly.
So what do I hope to see this weekend? It would be a dream to see Alonso finally win one for AMR. This would surely solidify him as the defacto face of the team and also where the team should be, in the front 2 rows. That is if Lance matures quickly. The Alpines are also my next hopefuls, I hope Monaco is not a one-off and that Ocon continues to maximize his car.
