Apologies for the late posting. I had a very busy week at my workplace… but speaking of work, these past two weeks has been all about someone losing their job. F1 is a brutal sport, and working for Red Bull highlights the extreme of this cut-throat industry. I think most people felt the axe came too soon for Mr.Nyck De Vries, but it is the Red Bull family, after all. This latest firing should be a clear warning for rookies looking to get a seat with the Red Bull family. You’ll literally have less than half a season to ride that Bull well; if not, you will be thrown off and left eating the dirt with no one to pick you up.
But how did Nyck really stack up against the other rookies?
In all honesty, it’s not that bad if you are looking to compare with the others. Oscar is doing amazingly well and proving he’s worth all that drama pre-season. In the case of Logan, I think props should be given to Williams for setting realistic expectations and proving they can be a bit more patient. It’s true that Nyck is on a slow dip, but I wonder how much of that dip is due to the Red Bull culture.
As per Ricciardo, he’s back in the saddle in the exact form RB wants him to be (as seen in Quali). Not to mention he’s providing that extra pressure RB wants to put on Perez. The question now is how long will that infectious smile on Ricciardo last? If he’s feeling good and having fun, the chances are he will keep performing beyond expectation, but if grump pants Marko sticks his head in the Alpha Tauri garage too many times, that smile might wade. I know Ricciardo would fancy a seat in the mothership again, but the truth is, I think he will do much better in the sister car and attract another upper-field team. What do you think?
