With only six races left to go, all eyes are now on the defending world champion—Red Bull, and the has-been world champion—Ferrari. While they are contenders for the championship this year, unless Red Bull suddenly went bankrupt or Max joined Greenpeace and will only drive a Toyota Prius, the likelihood of Ferrari winning this year is the same as them having an eye-catching yellow car in Monza; I think Ferrari’s spirit is broken… at least for the remainder of this season.
Looking at the pair of drivers, you can’t help but see the consistent form of the Red Bull drivers. Sergio is pulling above his weight as a second driver, and we could say Carlos is also doing the same. But the difference is with their No.1 drivers. Whether it is team error or driver mistakes, Leclerc’s luck and performance have been volatile while Max got more comfortable and better with a car that suits him; It really doesn’t matter where Max starts on the grid these days, he’s going to be on the podium.
With that said, Leclerc’s point scoring at Singapore has been competitive, considering he’s only raced there two times. So there is a glimmer of hope for him this weekend.
Lastly, we’ve been waiting for this moment for a while now, but it is time to play that teary-eyed Boys II Men song. Yes, It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterda… I mean Latifi. Mr. Latifi, you’ve done what you can, eh? And like your driver trend line, it is a downhill slope that, when compared to other drivers, it’s actually quite flat… a flatline on the very bottom. But thank you, Mr.Latifi, for your year(s) of efforts and generous development funds for Williams. Your empty spot will be well filled.
