The French GP is upon us, and it is going to be a-maze-ing! Yes, puns intended, and I will not be apologizing for that. Suffice to say, the winner of this race will be the best maze runner; someone who has a great memory, played lots of video games and did a lot of corn mazes when they were kids.
Here are a few observations:
It is certainly an exciting time of the season when teams are bringing out their upgrades to close the pack. It has already been a blast to watch the midfield since the beginning of this new technical era, and I am looking forward to how these upgrades will bring more actions and interactions between drivers.
The top-tier drivers (Max, Lewis, Charles, Russell, Carlos, Perez) have interesting driver trend lines. There is a seemingly two sub-classes between them; one group (Max, Lewis, Russell) has lines that are more consistently upward, while the other group (Leclerc, Carlos, Perez) has a bit more noticeable but small dips and peaks. These inconsistencies are not completely due to the driver's performance but are also attributed to their car’s reliability. With that in mind, those Ferraris do seem a bit shaky these days.
There are a few flatliners trending: Ricciardo, Alonso, Stroll, KMag, and Latifi (You can add Vettel too). On one hand, we can say some of them are consistent and may be netting adequate results, but on the other hand, some of them may be becoming a bit stale and on the blink of rotting. F1 is a cut-throat sport, and if you are not fresh and exciting for chef Ramsay, it should be time for a replacement… *cough* Latifi… *cough* Stroll…
Albon and the Williams: with the latest upgrades for both drivers, Albon gotta make a bounce back from his downward trend. No more excuses, time to show why Latifi needs to be replaced.
