Let’s get this out of the way first. No, Lewis is not the favourite. His media score is through the roof because of his recent FC takeover bid. Although his experience and media score do make him a safe driver to maximize every opportunity, provided there are opportunities. Mercedes may not be the fastest, but they have very adaptable drivers, that’s why they are second in the constructor championship at the moment.
As we know this will be a mix of rain and maybe dry conditions, these data and stats are now all up in the air! Qualifying gave us a taste of the chaos but also a sign that McLaren is doing well… especially on tracks that really suit them.
Who I will be watching this race, especially if it is wet, will be Alonso and Vettel. They both have what it takes [experience, maturity] to capitalize on a wet race. I think age and experience will prevail in this race.
Even though Albon is starting at the back, I think there is a good chance he will finish higher… I am definitely expecting some DNFs… aka Latifi…
So what’s going on with some of those unusual high social scores? Well, there is a new toy model that Yuki’s fan posted on Flickr and it is saturating the score. And Sainz? Well, he just extended his contract with Ferrari this week. While Sainz is in a good car and he is a good driver, I think the possibility of becoming a supporting driver is going to wreak havoc on his potential. I am expecting him to struggle until he is told where he stands within the team.
So who seems to be out of position? Excluding Mercedes, I would say Gasly, he seems to be out of the limelight compared to Yuki, and his excitement appears to be subdued, especially when it comes to Sprint races.
Well, that’s all I have today because, the truth is, wet races mean all data are out the window. And we love it.
