It should be to no one’s surprise that the FIA’s floor directive would not be introduced until after the Austria GP. Considering Red Bull has been benefiting from this little trick for the past 9 races, to ban it at their home race would create an uproar with all their Max fans; They might be angry enough to drown out the whole GP with those annoying orange smoke bombs! [Please ban those! I don’t care what colour! Just ban them!!!]
With that said, the most likely winners will still be the Bulls, with Max being the most successful driver (Column P) on this circuit. Interestingly, the 2nd most successful driver seems to be Bottas, ahead of Hamilton by a few points.
In terms of driver trends, here are a few commentaries:
Albon continues his downward movement with his DNF last race. Pretty much everyone who DNF last race took a dip, no surprises there, but Albon seems to be most noticeable, and is consistently sliding.
There is a lot of talk about Ricciardo and his lack of performance, yet he seems to be holding his number like a plank. Maybe that’s the problem, there is a lack of ups and downs, or entertainment, from him on the track at the moment. To add to his woe, Norris seems to be moving upward and is proving to be the more exciting driver to watch.
Yuki, the problem child, may need a few more therapy sessions after his last DNF. I am really curious if this will make him a better driver, or does it just make him a more well-adjusted person, which is also important.
Now that Zhou has his big crash (of his career!), all eyes will be on him to see if he can bounce back. If he can, I am certain he will become one of the more mature and exciting drivers of the next generation. Not to mention, if he can overcome this experience, Alfa may double down on him instead of bringing in their other untested rising star, Theo Pourchaire.
Lastly, I will be very keen to watch “Team” Ferrari this coming GP! Is there division in their camp? Or have they been able to put it all to rest with some lasagna and Mario Kart?
